Nativity of Our Lord Basketball

 

The CYO Basketball program participates in the Region 11 division.  It is open to all Nativity School and PREP students in grades 3rd-12th. There are programs for both girls and boys.

Season

The Region 11 basketball season runs from November 1st through February 28th. Practices may not begin before November 1st and all games and playoffs must be completed before February 28th.

Levels

There are 3 divisions based on grade. They are Novice (3rd/4th grade), JV (5th/6th grade), and Varsity (7th/8th grade). There are two levels of competition for both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams.  The A, or "Regional, level is considered a competitive level while Parish level is less competitive and more instructional. It should be noted if we can only field one team in a particular level then that team must compete at the regional level. The Novice division is all Parish level, instructional league. Score is not kept at the novice level.

Evaluations

• Boys and Girls of both levels will have scheduled evaluations during first week of November
  • (Evaluations for grade 5-8 will be TBD between Nov 1-7)

  • The purpose of the evaluation is to determine which players will be on the regional teams and ensure competitive balance on the parish teams.

  • Each player should attempt to make at least one of the two sessions for their age group. If your child is interested in being considered for the regional team, he/she must attend at least one of the sessions (attendance at both is highly recommended).

• There will be at least two evaluation practices that will be facilitated by the basketball coordinators and assigned coaches.  After evaluations are completed, the coaches will determine the rosters for each team based upon individual abilities.
• The schedule for evaluations will be communicated through TeamSnap.

Home Games

 All home games will be played at the Nativity of Our Lord Community Center unless noted otherwise.

Game Schedule

A scheduling meeting is planned and attended by all coaches participating in Region 11.  Schedules are not usually completed and confirmed until the middle or end of November.  If your player plays on a travel team it is important to forward their travel schedule to their coaches prior to the meeting.  Reasonable efforts are made to avoid conflict.

What to Bring

All athletes should wear the appropriate sneakers and bring a standard size basketball and water bottle to all practices and games. For boys in 7th and 8th grade and High School, a standard men’s (29.5) ball is used.  For all girls levels as well as JV and novice boys, a 28.5 size ball is used.

Uniforms

Uniforms can be purchased with the registration/uniform fee and each athlete will keep their uniform. Novice and high school uniforms change every year and need not be purchased. They are included with registration fees for those levels.

Pictures

A professional photographer will be taking team and pictures.   These need not be purchased and are available for free digital downloads courtesy of the CYO Board. We do ask that all team members attend the photo date in order to have a complete team picture.  The picture dates wil be scheduled with each individual coach and the times will be distributed by the coaches.
