Do I have to participate in sports to join Nativity of Our Lord Junior CYO?

No. You may join Nativity of Our Lord Junior CYO without participating in any sport activity. There are Spiritual, Service and Social events which normally occur each month which can be participated in without being involved in sports. Please refer to the Calendar of Events in the Spiritual, Service and Social tab(s) for additional information.

What are "blackout" dates?

These are days or time periods when no practices or games are scheduled so the students have every opportunity to attend a scheduled Spirital, Service or Social event. Refer to the Calendar of Events and Black Out Dates documents under the Spiritual, Service and Social tabs. 

 

How do I become a coach?

You must complete all of the requirements listed under the "volunteers/coach" page.  Once all the requirements are completed you must submit documentation to our Safe Environment Coordinator, Donna Ludovico, at the parish center. She can be reached at 215-773-8399 or dludovico@noolp.org

 

Is there a cost to be involved and play CYO sports?

Cost vary by sport and the cost for each sport can be found under the Sports tab.

Who can join Nativity of Our Lord CYO program?

Students currently enrolled in Nativity of Our Lord School or Nativity of Our Lord Prep Program from grades 3rd through 8th. Exceptions include baseball (5th through 8th grade, and softball 4th through 8th grade teams). If your child is serious about running they may be able to compete in Cross Country and Track from K through 3rd grades as well. Please contact the respective coaches for additional information.

 

How many sports can a student play at one time?

There is no limit with regards to the number of sports someone can participate in during a season. That decision is left up to the parents.

 

Does everyone make the team?

Yes. Everyone who registers will make the team. If there too many players then additional teams will be formed. In some cases there will be a "A" team and a "B" team. Determination regarding what players make what team will be left up to the coaches.

 

What are the playing time rules for CYO sports?

The amount of playing time will vary depending upon the level of competitive team and sport. There are three levels, they are; "A", "B" and parish. At the parish (instructional) level athletes must play half the game. At the "A" level, which is the most competitive level the amount of playing time is left up to the coach.

 

Who makes the decision regarding cancellation of games?

The final decision regarding all sports cancellations due to weather, except for Cross Country and Track and Field, are made by the Home team's Athletic Director (recommendations are made from coaches). Cross Country and Track and Field weather cancellations are made by the Archdiocese Cross Country Director for Cross Country and Region 11 board for Track and Field.

What is the Coach's MVP Award?

This is one of three awards, along with the Monsignor O'Donnell Award and Ginny Gray Award given out for each team. The recipient is chosen by the coaches. The award is given out at the Nativity of Our Lord Junior CYO end of the year banquet.

This person should be one of the best performing athletes on the team. He/she should be a leader in practice and games by showing their sportsmanship, leadership and spiritual commitment as well as
their athletic abilities.

What is the Ginny Grey Award?

This is one of three awards given out for each team at the CYO end of the year banquet.  The recipient is chosen by the coaches. This person should show and exercises sportsmanship during practices and games. Their conduct and attitude shows fairness and courtesy to his/her teammates, opposing players, referees, coaches and spectators. They should win with grace and lose with dignity.

What is the Monsignor O'Donnell Award?

This is one of three awards, along with the Coach's Award and Ginny Grey Award given out for each team. The recipient is chosen by the coaches. The award is given out at the Nativity of Our Lord Junior CYO end of year banquet.

This person should use their God given talents to the best of their abilities. They should respect their teammates by encouraging them during practice and games. They should consistently
attend the CYO spiritual and service functions.
